Avenyou is run by Mahir Yavuz, an individual (a sole proprietor) in New York. Questions about your data go to [email protected].
What we collect
- Your mobile number, when you sign up.
- Your sign-up answers: your interests and neighborhoods, and, if you give them, a budget and favorite places.
- Your reactions: Save, Not for me, and I went.
- What you open: page opens, taps through to a listing's source, and time spent on a pick. We use these only to learn what works, never to rank your picks or anything on the site.
- Our texts to you, and any replies you send.
- Cookies: an anonymous visitor cookie (a random ID that names no one) and, once you open your picks, member cookies, so saves on the site count for you. While you sign up, a short-lived encrypted cookie holds your number between steps.
- Reports you send with "Something wrong?" on a listing.
- To stop abuse of sign-up codes, a scrambled (hashed) copy of the number and network address behind each code request, never the number or address itself.
No third-party trackers, no analytics scripts, and no ads.
How we use it
- To text you a link to your picks each Thursday and a short follow-up on Monday, plus sign-up codes and a welcome text when you join.
- To put your picks in order, from your answers and reactions.
- To improve the library: what belongs in it, and what's wrong.
We don't sell your data, rent it, or use it for advertising.
Text messages
Avenyou weekly picks, our text program, sends about 2 messages per week: your picks on Thursday and a follow-up on Monday, plus sign-up codes and a welcome text when you join. Message and data rates may apply. Text STOP to cancel or HELP for help. See the Terms.
Who else handles it
- Twilio sends our texts and sign-up codes, so it handles your number and those texts.
- Cloudflare serves the site, so it sees requests to it, as any web host does.
- Everything else is stored on our own server, which we rent in the United States.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while you're a member, and after you stop texts in case you come back. When you've stopped texts and ask us to delete your data, we delete or anonymize it within 30 days. Our server's logs never show your full number.
Your choices
- Text STOP to stop our texts at any time, and START to start them again.
- Pause or stop texts, or change your answers, from Settings on your picks page.
- Email [email protected] to see what we have about you, or to have it deleted.
- You can clear or block our cookies. Browsing still works, but signing up, reporting a listing, and carrying saves to your picks need them.
Children
Avenyou is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you think we have, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version goes here with a new date. We won't use data we already have in a new way without telling members first.
